Guest speaker: Simon Carey Holt is pastor of the Collins Street Baptist Church.

Before ordination to ministry, he trained as a chef. After a decade of pastoral ministry followed by postgraduate study at Fuller Seminary in Los Angeles,he spent 15 years teaching in spirituality, ethics and pastoral theology, first at Macquarie Christian Studies Institute in Sydney and then at Melbourne’s Whitley College.

His research and writing interests include the ethics of everyday life, the theology of food and hospitality, and the nature of Christian mission in suburbia. He has written three books on these topics: God Next Door: Spirituality and Mission in the Neighbourhood (2007)  Eating Heaven: Spirituality at the Table (2013), both published by Acorn Press, and Heaven All Around Us: Discovering God in Everyday Life  (2018) published by Cascade Books.

Simon will help us think through the place of men and women in bringing meaning to the table; dispensing hospitality; Melbourne as a place to eat; and who should be running the kitchen – a role or gifting?
